The Dolphin Society

TROOP 217 emphasizes aquatics. All of our scouts
are strongly encouraged to be as comfortable in the water as they are
on dry land. Many years ago, former Scoutmaster Ray Throckmorton
(Mr. T) founded the Dolphin Society to recognize troop members who had
earned all the aquatics merit badges. Troop members who complete
the requirements are enshrined as members of the Dolphin Society.
Currently, a Scout must earn each of the following merit badges: Swimming,
Lifesaving,
Canoeing, and
Rowing.
Also a Scout must earn either Motorboating,
Sailing, or
Waterskiing.
Finally a Scout must successfully complete the requirements for the
Mile Swim
BSA. Upon completing these requirements, the Scout is presented
with his very own 217 Dolphin Society Belt Buckle (pictured above).
The Latin inscription on the belt buckle means "water is my other
home."
